Do you ever get dry mouth and fatigued one mile into your three-mile run? Hydrating adequately before, during, and after a run is of great importance for peak performance, whether you're hitting the treadmill, trail, or road. More energy and endurance during the run and a decrease in recovery time after a long run can benefit from hydrating appropriately.
I found the graphic below a good rule of thumb for hydrating in preparation for a 45 minute or more extended run.
